Verid+ fingerprint units - secure access control
Client Profile and Project Brief
A National Telecommunications provider in West Africa needed high security Access Control
to all its Office buildings, as well as a variety of smaller buildings (e.g. Transmitter Base
stations, etc) spread across the country. As the use of other peoples' borrowed cards or PIN
numbers (known as "buddying") was widespread, the client needed a solution which would verify each
person's identity
every time access was requested to a building or site. Because of
the disparate nature of the sites, they needed a system that would be centrally managed,
and would enable national deployment of biometric templates across the entire system.
The Solution
TSSI recommended the use of Verid+ fingerprint units, storing the "fingerprint
template-on-card". Access is only permitted to the cardholder when his identity has been verified
by the Verid+ unit, by comparing his actual fingerprint with his biometric
fingerprint template stored on the card. This approach avoids the necessity of managing the
distribution of templates to the correct locations on a National basis.
The Business Benefits
The Verid+ units check each person's biometric template
every time entry to a site, nationwide, is requested. This ensures a very high level of
security for access to these sites. The use of template-on-card avoids the necessity of managing
the distribution of templates to the correct locations.
